Quality used clothing and housewares for sale at affordable prices.
Donations accepted during business hours at the back door.
Please bring donations inside through the North facing double doors during regular hours of operation. Our development agreement with the city requires fencing with the gates to be closed and locked outside of regular hours of operation. Please do not leave items outside of the fence as that is city property and you could be prosecuted under the city anti dumping bylaw.
Basically anything the government does not want you to be selling at a garage sale.
Mattresses and box springs (Public Health regulations), Sofas (No room!), microwave ovens (We have no means of safety testing them.), TV's (We've just had too much junk!), Large furniture items (Require the manager's approval), and hazardous materials e.g. white gas. The recycling centre across from the bottle depot on Diamond avenue will take this stuff.
The Thrift Shop made some $75,000 dollars in charitable donations in 2008, $100,000.00 in 2009 and has also paid off the mortgage on the addition.
Lists of donations made:
Referrals from churches, FCSS, Victim Services, Neighbourlink, Westview Hospital, Mental Health, Pioneer Museums (Spruce Grove and Stony Plain.), Multicultural Centre, HOSEA, Bissell, Mustard Seed, Mexico,Guatemala, Cuba, African Countries, and anyone expressing need.
Paid staff includes a paid manager, a full time helper, two part time people, and a contracted janitor.
We have up to 100 dedicated volunteers who have fun sorting and pricing clothes, housewares, etc, as well as anything else that needs doing. We could really use more, especially cashiers.
Thank you for your support.
With humble beginnings as a U.C.W. rummage sale more then twenty five years ago the shop has undergone three major expansions as well as turning into a major outreach project supporting local and international charities.
